Access Control for Protected Areas

Stand-alone RFID system reliably protects against unauthorized access to secure areas

In many production and logistics environments, there are protected areas or cabinets which require security to protect against unauthorized access. For low and medium levels of security, cylinder locks are often used. But the disadvantage of this approach is that a separate key may be required for each lock.

Cost-effective door control

IO-Link read/write devices with password protection and single I/O mode (SIO) offer a cost-effective alternative. First of all, a password must be written to the SLIX2 chip on a conventional RFID reader; this same password is also stored in the IO-Link reader

The IO-Link reader must be operated in SIO mode for this purpose. It switches to a maximum of 200 mA if the password on the chip matches the password that is stored in the reader. It also isn't possible to simply duplicate the tag without knowing the password. 

Autonomous solution without PLC or interface

The application is easy to retrofit, as the read/write device does not require an interface, an IO-Link master or even a PLC. The reader simply requires a power supply to release a relay or a door locking device via its switching output. The three IO-Link readers TN-M18-IOL2, TN-M30-IOL2 and TN-Q40-IOL2 can each be used for access control.
